CHINA ASKS TO BE HEARD.
WASHINGTON, May 23. Advices from Peking state that the Chinese Foreign Office has instructed the Chinese Minister in London and the Charge d'Affaires at Tokyo to request th' British and Japanese Governments to consult China in the event of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance making disposition of Chinese matters. It is understood that the public organisations at Shanghai and Peking have addressed a request to the Chinese Government to protest against the provision in the Anglo-Japanese Alliance by which Britain and Japan guarantee China's integrity. *
The Chinese Cabinet declines direct negotiations with Japan ' regarding the Shantung question.— (A. and N.Z.)
