"REDS" IN SIBERIA.
FORMING A BUFFER STATE.
UNDER SOVIET INFLUENCE.
(Received 10.30 a.m.)
PEKING, May 23
The ex-B6lshcvik leader Krasnochkoff. styling' himself Foreign Minister, has .notified- the Alied High Commissioners in Siberia of the formation of a buffer State called Verchneuninsk, consisting of the territories eastward of Lake Baikal, . including Kamschatka and Sakhalin. Krasnochkoff requests the evacuation from Siberia of all the Allied forces, including the Japanese. It is believed that the movement is inspired from Moscow, but it "is" not taken seri- [ ously.—(Reuter.)
Referring to Siberia, an authoritative commentary 'states that the Tfteds attacked the Japanese east of Verkhneudinsk, and were defeated with the loss of three hundred killed. The Japanese casualties were two. The quality of the Siberian troops is very poor, and they showed no inclination to fight. Other "Red" forces are assembling west and south of Nikolaievsk.— [&. and N.Z.)
