141 P.C. ABOVE PRE-WAR. HIGHER' PRICES THIS YEAR. (ItccciTed 11.30 a.m.) LOXDUX, May IS. Tli. "Labour -la-ettc" stated that retail price., including fo.d, clothing, light, and rent, on the tir. t of May were about 141 per cent above the figures ruling in July, 1914. Tho Food Controller's statistics relating to food show an increase of 1-10 per cent, lie says that the United Kingdom's food prices have risen less than those of France, Italy, and Sweden, and are not much in excess of the United States, and adds that the present level is undoubtedly a matter of serious concern. Tho Food Controller concludes that prices in the coining summer will reach a very high level, owing to the cost of imported food, the partial removal of the bread subsidy, and the increased price of sugar and potatoes.— (A. and N.Z. and Reuter.)
