HOCKEY.

Tlte championship fixtures were continued at Remuera last Saturday afternoon when the matches in the senior grade were again well contested, notwithstanding that Mt. Eden secured a tour goal victory over Somervilie. University defeated Edendale by three goals to one, and St. Luke's beat Areta by a goal to nil. After the rain during the week tlie grounds were inclined to b»' soft, consequently there was not so much sting in the pace of the ball, and in the games generally play waa seldom as fast as it was oh the previous Saturday. A 'strong breeze was also in evidence which tended to make matters uncomfortable for spectators at the games unsheltered by the pavilion. On the whole play was rather exhilarating on account of the evenness of the contests. It is understood that the Auckland referees have some important decisions as to policy to make at a meeting which will be held at the sports dub" to-night. Tbe following are the positions of the teams:—

The best struggle of the day was in the conflict T)etwe<"ii University aud Edendale. Thp evenness of the contest maintained the Interest and enthusiasm n! the spectators until towards the end of the ganrr. and then the students attained their highest standard of excellence. Edendale opetred the attack, and nheir deadly tackling completely upset the work of the students, and at half-time were leading by a solitary goal.
