INFLUENZA NOTIFICATIONS.
The report for the period ending at noon yesterday of the Auckland Healtti District places the total number of influenza notifications at 496. Of these 454 are of a mild type, while are severe. In the city 67 mild oases and 2 severe were reported, in the suburbs 137 mild and 9 severe, and in Auckland country districts 23 mild, 8 severe. The 250 notifications which come from the outer country district are for the most part mild, there being only 23 severe cases. These latter are reported as follows:—Huntly 1, Tfatamata 1, WaiM 1. JVaikato County 1, Kaitieke 5, Ohineimiri 3, To Aroha 2, Hamilton 2, Te Puke 4, Tauranga 3. The mild, cases are distributed follows:—Huntly i>, Ohura 1. Matamata IS, Morrinsville 3, Thames 20, Waihi 4, Tauranga 10, Waikato County 10, Te Kuiti s,~Kaitieke 5, Ohinemuri .5. Te Aroha U, Paeroa 6, Thames 14, Hamilton 3S, Opotiki 13, Whakatane 2, Te Puke 47, Tauranga 16. WELLINGTON, Monday. Returns of infectious diseases notified from various parts of Wellington district for the week ended noon to-day showed ac increase of 525 in the number of cases of influenza compared with figures for the previous week. Altogether 70S influenza notifications were received during the week by the district health officer, and of these 20 related to pneumonic cases, three to severe, and 775 to
mild cases. The city figures were: Seven pneumonic, two severe, 325 mild cases. The district health officer (Dr. I. E. Faris) stated that, so far as Wellington city was concerned the position was reaesuring, in that the ratio of pneumonic to mild cases was not increasing unduly. "It is anticipated." said Dr. Faris, "that there will be several waves of this mild type of influenza during the winter months, as many of the cases reported are the same as those experienced five years or so ago, when the disease was not so dreaded as it is to-day."
