ADDITIONAL RATING IMPOSED. (By Tele=ra;i'j.-Own Correspondent.} • WHAXGARKI, this day. In order to meet commitments on machinery and mailing, tin- Whangarei County Council, at its monthly meeting, decided to strike an additional general rat* , ot" one penny on the unimproved value of Whangarei county. This additional rate is expected to* realise about £5200. The machinery .commitments of the Council amount t"i £U0(io and main roads lv rS7li4. a total of nearly £10,000, Provision to meet this already made is: Maungakahia loan machinery, £3000; (TPiicral account. current estimates, W0OO; main roads, farthing rate I .-truck in A prill. £1300. 'Hie foregoing, together with £5200 to l.c raised by an additional general rate of one penny, will enable the Council to liquidate all its commitments. The action of the Council in taking this means to raise additional finance was taken witli a view of prevention of any increase in its already heavy bank overdraft, and as preferable to striking a machinery loan rate spread over the whole county for a period of yea if.
