REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. ' A surplus of £1,047,420 is shown in the accounts of the Railways Department for the year ended March 31. The results for the year, compared with those for the previous year, are as follows:— 101.-20. 1018-10. Earnings £5.752,487 £4,088,632 .. 4.103.0.7 3.-08,575 £1,647,420 £1,680,057 The expenditure amounted to 71.36 per cent, compared with 66.32 last year. North Island revenue totalled £3,366,----330, and expenditure £2,268,486. South Island revenue, £2,386,157 •, expenditure, £1,830,580. <_rand total: Revenue, £5,752,487; expenditure, £4,105,067. On the Whangarei line the revenue was £60,858, and the expenditure £52,373. Kaihu: Revenue, £6487; expenditure, £9957. Main line and branches: Revenue, £3,259,747; expenditure, £2,174,341. The number of passengers carried during the year was 12,760,814, an increase of 1,386,293 on the total for the preceding twelve months. The number of season tickets increased from 351,124 to 400,621. Stock carried during the year numbered 7,674,532 head, an increase of 63..220 head. The goods traffic increased by 358,775 tons, the total for the year being 5,597.232 tons. Minerals, included in this total, showed a decrease of 143,247 tons, due to the reduced production of coal from the mines.
