RELIEF MEASURES ESSENTIAL. FARMERS' UNION REMITS. ' Th_ shipping problem and the necessity for some action whereby the position might be alleviated, has again been recommended for consideration in remits that have come forward for - discussion at the provincial conference of the Farmers' Union to commence on May 25. k They will be set out in the supplementary list. The Northern Walrpa sub-provincial district urges the forma tioh of a farmers' co-operative fleet Of insulated ships, the first steps to be taken being the cireularisation of farmers of the Dominion for financial support. The Peria branch of the, Union commences by suggesting that there has been an apparent hoybott' of the Commonwealth line of steamers by the shipping' combine, and with a view-to remedying thfe recommends- that thte Dominion: Government take immediate action towards co-operating with the Commonwealth Government in increasing the number of steamers to cape with Australian shipping.' The hides question is dealt with by the-Cambridge-branch. They first .of ajl state that a benefit has been derived from the difference caused by the reqiiisitidiumg of hides, between the meal price.and the world's parity, and finish by requesting a fepoft from the Governirient Department concerned as to who reaped 1 this benefit: Other remits deal With encouragement by *«y of Government subsidy for the manufacture of iron and steel in the Dominion: subsidies on loans for roaming, land tenure, and matters pertaining to union organisation.
