THE RAILWAY TRIBUNAL.
PROCEEDINGS COMMENCED. \ (By Telegraph.—Press WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Conciliation Tribunal, which is to investigate the section of the railway dispute dealing with the claims of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants met to-day, Mr. G. R. Bullock presiding. The Railway Department representative, are Messrs. J. Macdonald (assistant general manager), A. W. Mouat . (chief clerk), and'4k McCartney (officer in charge of the advertising branch). The A.S.R.S. delegates are Messrs. Hampton (president), M. J. Mack (secretary), and F. Cam The arrangement is that two outside representatives are to be selected. The society • has nominated Messrs. W. D. Hunt and J. W. Dickson, M.P. The Government have not announced their nominations yet.
The order of reference directs the tribunal to,inquire and report to the Minister of Railways on such matter* affecting rates of pay and condition, of work of the Second Division as may be brocght before it by *he Department or the A.S.R.S.. and it" is directed that the tribunal shall report na coon as possible. The inquiry may be conducted in public, if and. whenever .members think' fit. To-day's proceedings wefe private, tbe Prime Minister attended the opening of the tribunal.
