Xo lees than seven authorities, were represented at the. meeting called for last evening to. consider the formation of a community club in this city, these were ihe Navy, • Civic, ,and.. Victoria Leagues, Women's National. Reserve, Women's Mutual Aid Society, the Health Patrol, and the Returned Soldiers' Association. '..'...• , , , . '' . j The object* of community clubs were outlined by Mrs. Rollett, the chief aim being, to provide some .organised form of recreation, to'be open "to the community, and particularly to it* homeleM solitary members. It .was desired .{hat aboveboard recreation should be 'provided for young men and women, who, for lack of it, found their amusement in undeeirable 'places.
The ■.other, side was the utilisation of the spirit of war-time energy. She suggested to' the meeting: the establishment of a community club .open to all of 17 years and, over, where pleasant educative recreation might be obtained. They might have an information bureau, through which ' applicant* could secure good, clean lodgings. . They might also provide light eupperf. ; -- ' ■ ' i
With respect to the,necessary finances, Mrs. Rollett suggested that it would be necessary to go to -the public, and she thought the municipality should bear its share. • Later the advisability of extending' it to the suburbs .and the country district* could •be*cbrieider«L ■. • .
