FRENCH STRIKE.

GOVERNMENTS CAMPAIGN. RAID ON LABOUR OFFICES. (By Cable.—Pres« Association.—Copyright.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 12. ' No confirmation has been, received of the statement that the French Government is discontinuing the action against the General Confederation of Labour, but it is stated by the ''Matin" that the action was not framed to dissolve the trade unions, but to break the bond which, while leaving each section free to seek its own economic protection, prevented them entering the domai/ of politics. The Bordeaux tradespeople have orgenieed an lyiti-strike movement to boycott all strikers by refusing supplies. The feeling in the country and in the Chamber of Deputies strongly supports the Government, which has opened the campaign by raiding the .labour offices and residences of v the officials of the federation. The manifesto protests that the search and seizure of documents was illegal, owing to the absence of interested persons. * " PARIS, May 12. The general strike shows signs of spreading. Strikes are occurring in a number of trades, including gae, electricity and building trades. The position at Marseille<> is serious. The Government discussed the situation to-day. M. Millerand stated that it was proposed to prosecute the officials of the General Confederation of Labour on the ground that it was not a group of trade unions but an illegal body aiming to overturn t.h»> established Government.—(A. and N.Z.
