THE LIBERAL SPLIT.
BROKEN PARTY MACHINE. DANGER OF FORCING ISSUE. LONDON, May 12. Coalition Liberal Ministers addressed a crowded meeting at the Central Hall, Westminster. The chairman read a letter from Mr. Lloyd George, stating that the recMit proceedings at the annual meeting of the National Liberal Federation at Leamington, where Coalition Liberal speakers were refused a hearing, exposed the unfitness of the National Liberal Federation as at present managed to represent Liberalism. "Liberal Coalitionists," proceeded Mr. Lloyd George in his letter,
"have never betrayed Liberal principle*. Recent by-elections have clearly shown that the party machine no longer represents the Liberal rank and file. - No doubt the division in Liberalism is serious, and any , premature attempt to force the issue between the two sections will leave the party rent, bleeding, and helpless for a generation. Unfortunately bad temper has seized the reins. The present dissension is a source of grief to mc. I have done more to avert it than is yetknown."
A resolution in favour of the Coalition was carried with acclamation. —(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
