General business conditions in the United States, according to John Dunn, Son, and Co.'s circulars of April 1, con- ■ tinue without material change, though a■ decidedly more optimistic feeling pre- < vail, than wa« evident a month ago. The rise in the value of the pound sterling has proved stimulating, while the money market has assumed a somewhat less strained condition. Buyers, perhaps* are somewhat careful as to commitments for' distant deliveries, and a feeling of conservatism is prevalent that is most reassuring for the future. Anarchetic manifestations of any extreme sort have not been in evidence of late; the Government's determination to eradicate such disturbers shows no abatement, and no further apprehension w felt of serious trouble from this source. : As a result of a bullet wound in the abdomen & young man named Lionel Whitmore was admitted to the Auckland Hospital yesterday afternoon. He was examining a revolver with which he was practicing at a pnblic shooting gallery, when he accidentally discharged it. His condition is very serious. Little information as yet can be obtained concerning Whitmore, except that he was a visitor from Hastings.
