HOUSEHOLDERS' ANNUAL MEETING.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l have before mc a circular from the eecretary of the New Zealand Edu- L eational Institute, in which he asks'( householders, nt their annual meeting! on May 3rd next, to'paes <t series of i three resolution's, or a resolution in three! parts. As one interested in education, I and in the doings of teachers at their ■ annual conferences, I trust that all Auckland householders will support tlie ' majority of Auckland teacher . representatives at these conferences in opposing the third clause of this reeolution. It aims at the centralisation of all renl control in educational matters in the hands . of a small rinjr of "educationalists" in ' Wellington. Tlie secretary of the X.Z.E.I. would, of course, deny this, but any reosonirig layman, following the debates, would come to the conclusion tliat it is simply a dodge for ■ centralising" power in the hands of a few in Welling- \ ton. To prevent tfiis I would ask all Auckland city and provincial meetings of householders on May 3rd to pase clause three in the following form: — Third.—ln order to {jive full effect- to theea measures, a reform of the system of administration by establishing "four education, grading and promotion districts under local Education Boaede." The X.Z.E.I. proposal aims at abolishing local Education Boards, so it behoves us -to wake i3p, before we lose all real power of local control in am, etc., CHAIRMAN OF A COMMITTEE.
