THE CHILDREN'S '"WELCOME" BUILT UP IN LIVING LETTERS. The finest reception the Princo evoked in Auckland was that which took place on the Domain on Monday morning, when the school children gathered in their thousands to welcome him in living letters. The Domain was black with people, and the outburst of welcome from the crowd was pronounced by an official who has been right round with the Prince, the best of the tour. Impressed by the multitude of sixty thousand spectators, massed about the slopes of the grounds, the battalion of eight thousand school children of the province steadily did their appointed part of making living pictures. They assembled in mass of red, white, and blue colours, and to the call of the whistle half of them marched out till the word "Welcome" was picked out in living letters over the greensward; unfalteringly they changed formation, and the basin of the ground had been transformed into a gigantic I'nion Jack; then bands struck up and the great emblem moved and fluttered, changing and glinting as litle hand-flags fluttered rhythmically in the breeze. It "was a magnificent display of picture-making that earned the enthusiastic applause ol* the tens of thousands of onlookers.
