A PECULIAR DEATH.
TRAM FALL XOT ATTRIBUTABLE. The singular circumstances surrounding the death of Elizabeth Eckley, of Mary Street, Mount Eden, on April 23. were investigated by Mr. E. C. Cutten. S.M.. this morning. The deceased sustained a fall from a Mount Albert tram cat on April 20. and though not seriously injured, died nine days Inter. There was no evidence as to the actual accident, but from the deceased's statement it was evident that she fell in alighting from the car. Phc was able to walk after the mishap, but was very shaky, and was conveyed home. Dr. P. Russell, who attended her. found that she was suffering from a bruised hip and thigh, but her condition was in no way alarming. When he ascertained that the sufferer bad died he concluded that heart failure was the cause, and he was confirmed in this opinion by the post-mortem examination of Dr. A. Trwsley. The latter testified that deatli was due to heart failure, due to a diseased heart muscle. The coroner's finding was in accordance with the med : eal testimony, and he added that death was not connected with the fall from the car.
