BLOOD LUST IN IRELAND

POLICE AGENT'S MURDER., DRAMATIC ARREST AT FERRY. '.By Cable.—rress Association.—Copjriffht.) Uteeeired 9 a.m.) LONDON, March 28. A Dublin magistrate named Allan Bell has been assassinated. Recent Sinn Fein propaganda describes Bell, who was murdered in a street, car, us having been acting in the English Secret Service for 40 years. He had always been in the closest touch with Dublin Castle. Bell had a loaded revolver, but the murderers, sitting beside him, acted so quickly that he hadn't time to draw. Another accomplice pulled the trolley pole from the overhead wire, stopping the tram. A dramatic i-.rrest occurred of five youths embarking on the Dublin ferryboat for Liverpool. Fifty police came alongside the steamer accompanied by an armoured car, which brought a gun to bear on the gangway. The five were then arrested and driven off to an unknown destination. It is understood the arre=t was in connection with the South Irish outrages. Mr. L. Ginnell, the Sinn Fein member for \Vestmeath s has been arrested. Thirty-five?, prominent Sinn Feiners were arrested at to-day's roundup in Dublin.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) LONDON, March 25. A large, party desperately attacked and overwhelmed the. police barracks at Gortatlea, County Kerry. Three policemen were seriously injured. The raiders blew up the barracks, which were burnt to the ground. Telegraph lines were cut throughout County Kerry. Another mysterious shooting affair took place \n a crowded street in the centre of Dublin yesterday evening. Three men laid in wait for an unknown man, aged 25. While two of them held of the crowd, the third thrust a revolver in the man's face and fired. The man fell, and the assassin fired two more bullets in the body lying on the ground. The three conspirators escaped amid the panic of the onlookers. It is suspected that it was a case of executing a police spy.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) MUNITIONS FROM GERMANY. DISCOVERT IN CARGO. LONDON, March 25 (delayed). The "Evening Standard" states, in connection with Mr. Clement Edwards' question in the House of Commons regarding rumours of a rising planned in Ireland for Easter Monday, that a foreign ship has been detained in a northern port. Suspicions were aroused when the ship entered the Thames and departed suddenly without discharging hefr cargo of lager beer from Germany. Customs officers, acting on information, thoroughly searched the ship, and found that the lower barrels contained German machine-guns, rifles, and ammunition. The captain was unable to give a satisfactory explanation, and was detained and brought to London for further inquiries. Another foreign captain has been detained under suspicion. It is believed that shipments of arms were directly arranged with the complicity of the Sinn Fein leaders.—(A. and N.Z.)
