January S" : — The interview, which was as follow*, was published under large heads, "Kangaroo Express Inventor here_ to purchase matches,.—Visitor tells remarkable tale of Australian pre-tranfeit":— "Oeorge H. Henderson. head of the Anzac Kangaroo Are brigade, was in this city to-day. buying matches for rhe interior of Australia. Henderson and the matches win leave for Sydney on the next steamer. "According to Henderson, farmers ln Interior Australian points have considerable difficulty in getting matches. Henderson ! conceived the idea of using kangaroo cou- ! tiers and formed his famous fire brigade. IHe discovered that at certain reasons of ! tbe year tbe kangaroos came from inlaud Ito the coast, returning in tbe fall. [ "Henderson roped several kangaroos and 'filled their pockets with matches. Then he . marked them with a white stripe and j turned them loose. Word was sent broad- ! cast that a kangaroo with a white stripe would be found tv have matches in his front pocket. Tbe unique delivery system, according to Henderson, developed into a regular industry, tbe farmers roping all striped kangatoos and robbing them of matches. "Henderson will return with ",00 cases of waterproof matches, which will be sent ■ out in March by the kangaroos next fail. Spring or summer delivery, according to Henderson, is impossible, as tile kangaroo dumps ont the matches and uses the pockets to carry around his new family, of which i he hae one each year."
