ARBITRATION COURT.
AMENDED AWARDS "WANTED. "BOTTLED BEER WENT UP." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Application for amended awards to give increased wage 3 were made to-day by a number of unions before the Arbitration Court. The Private Hotel Workers' Union asked for ten shillings a week increase on all wages. The president (Mr. Justice Stringer) said the war regulations did not enable tho Court to make any such award. Increases had to be based on the increased cost of living. In the case of the Brewery Employees' Union, he said, immediately after the last award was granted 'the brewers put up the price of bottled beer a shilling per dozen. In the course of discussion Judge Stringer said it appeared that various sections of workers were exploiting one another.
The union contended that most miserable wages were being paid by one of the most lucrative businesses in the Dominion, and expressed the opinion that the application was not unreasonable.
In this and all other cases decisions were reserved.
