SEMPLE BRINGS ACTION.
ALLEGED UNTRUE STATEMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association i WELLINGTON, this day. Angus John McCurdy and Flora Mary McCurdy were proceeded against by Robert Semple on charges that they published in the "Hutt Valley Independent" untrue statements of ar.d concerning Semple, calculated to influence the votes of electors, as follows:—" 'I am a German, and proud of if —Semple at Auckland during 1914 strike; but at the Upper Hutt the other night he posed an Australian, but he is not the only 'Red Fed' Australian with Hun blood in his veins." The cases were adjourned. This action is presumably taken under the Legislature Act, 1908. clause 158: "Every person is liable to a fine not exceeding fSO or imprisonment for any period not exceeding three months, who at any time between the issue of the writs and the close of the poll publishes or exposes, or causes to be published or exposed, to public view auy untrue statement defamatory of any candidate and calculated to influence the vote of any elector/ <
