PERSONAL.
Mr. J. W. Black, manager of the branch of the National Bank, Dunedin, is staying at Cargen. Dr. R. H. Makgil!, acting chief health officer, left for Wellington by the express yesterday. Sir. J. Dolph,. who has been appointed solicitor to the Public Trust Office at Christchurch;' leaves for the Southern city to-night. Mr. W. R. B. Bagge, engineer in charge of new railway work, Auckland, has been transferred to Ohakune, and takes charge between Frankton and Marton. Colonel H. R. Potter, C.M.G., O.C. Auckland military district, is making a tour of inspection at Hamilton and Rotorua. Captain H. H. Sargeant, Harbourmaster, has returned to his duties, and Captain Lacy, who acted during his absence, has now taken his vacation. Lieut.-Colonel C. E. Hercus, D.5.0., N.Z.M.C., having been demobilised, has taken up duty aa Assistant-Public Health Officer, for Canterbury-Westland district. Captain S. G. Stringer, has been promoted from Assistant, to Superintendent of Mercantile Marine, at Wellington. Captain J. W. Burgess, Surveyor of Ships, has been appointed as assistant. Mr. H. R. Hogg, of Hamilton, was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by his Honor Mr. Justice Chapman yesterdaymorning, on the motion of Mr. F. D. McLiver. Mr. J. A. Carpenter, general manager for Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd., New Zealand, arrived by the express train from Wellington on Saturday, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Carpenter will remain in Auckland for about a fortnight, prior to his touring other centres in New Zealand where the company proposes extending its operations-
