a FOREIGN MISSIONS WORK. The Auckland Presbytery met last evening at St. David's Schoolroom, the Rev. D. J. A. Albe*r**e*" Moderator, presiding. A letter was read from tnc Iter. Angus McDonald, C.8.E., of Weilpu, asking the Presbytery to grant him three monthsleave of absence, as he had been ordered to take complete rest for thai period as a result of illness Through being gassed in France. On the motion of the Rev. Robt. Somnier- , ville, clerk of Presbytery, the Presbytery expressed Its sincere sympathy wilh Mr. Angus McDonald in his illness contracted while discharging his duty on active service granted him three mouths' leave of absence, and expressed the hope that the rest would restore him to renewed health and strength. It was mentioned thnt the Rev. Mr. I'latl nt present engaged at Whakatane. would probably he prevailed upon to supply the chnrge nt Walpu during Mr. McDonald's absence. ■Presbytery decided, on the motion of the Rev. Mr. Pattison. to hold a Presbyterian conference at SI. David's on March 3 to resolve how the Auckland district should raise its -proportion of the sum of at least £7000 extra needed in the current year for work ill the Held of the New Zealand Presbyterian Foreign Misssion. This sum, it wns pointed out In a letter from the Assembly, wns urgently necessary to meet the ordinnry outlay of the mission for the year, lnrgely owing to the greatly Increased rntc lof exchange in India and China. It was j estlmnted that the Auckland Presbytery would have need to raise an additional 7/ per member, amounting to about £1785. The Presbytery resoeved to leave all details in the hands ot the Moderator, clerk, and convener of the Foreign Missions Committee. •Six months' leave of absence was granted to the Key. Wm. McDonald, of Epsom, owing to a severe nervous breakdown. A motion of regret and sympathy was passed with Mr. McDonald ln his illness together with the hope that the rest would restore : him to health.
