■to one clothing- establishment. A day's shopping and comparing of prices will ; open the eyes of anyone to the proflteer- , ing which is going on right in our midst. ! "Vidi" went shopping one day for gentlemen's grey silk socks. Those shops which had ever\- colour font grey told the very old, old story about having sold them all J out last season, and there was absoi lutely no demand -for grey thie year. There was a time long, long, long ago when that story did flatten one's feciblc I attempt at a little up-to-dateness, IcavI ing an odd out-of-Mie-ark dread in one's mind, and tended to lure one into purI chasing substitutes which the artful 1 vendor had in stock. Xow, however, those days are happily pnst, and to use the glorified diction of our boys, we 'have j become "too llv" and so -pass on to try I our luck in other shops. Those who did j have grey in stock varies in price for the I self-same quality and style from four shillings and elevenpence up to seven shillings and sixpence.
