The Hon. A. M. Myers left Wellington to-day for Auckland. The increase in the price of tobacco has caused a " Post" correspondent to make the following protest:—As a smoker of 35 years, I agree that it is time we smokers took a decided stand against these after-war increased prices. Tobacco, unlike food and clothing, can be dispensed with for the nonce, and if we do so we would very soon have a cheaper weed. Good old Raleigh taught the world the pleasures of the pipe. Let us rally together and teach the lesson that although we have to suffer through the necessaries of life—food and clothing—we can suffer the loss of the sublime weed for a time at least. I would like to see a smokers' league started, each member pledged to abstain partly or wholly from the use of tobacco for a time, more or less. It -would soon break up this latter-day custom of eternally raising prices. The time has come for a strong protest, when we can do so without loss or injury to our health. I intend to do mv bit. Who else says I "Mc, too? -.
