NEW WORKING AGREEMENT.

' FOR COASTAL OFFICERS. The agreement which has been so long pending between the Auckland Shipowners' Federation and the Merchant Service Guild has been finally completed. It is for a period of two years, and came into force at Christmas, being retrospective from October 20, 1919, when the previous agreement expired. The working conditions in the new agreement are closely allied to those in the .previous one, a preference clause being inserted, providing that only fully financial members of the Merchant Service Guild shall 'be employed by the out of Auckland shipping companies. An increase of £5 per month has been given to masters, and £4 to officers, while the former Teceive 21 days' holiday during the year, and the officers 14 days. The wages for masters now range from, £26 to £38 per month, chief officers from £24 to £27, and second officers from £20 to £23. Several vessels, on : account of their extra work, have received a higher classification than of yore, and -this gives masters and officers of these steamers a further increase in wages.
