AND SPEEDING VP. QUICKER TRAINS. FASTER THAN PRE-WAR. The Railway Department announces that commencing to-morrow special week - end expresses will be run. eliminating the stops at Mercer, Te lvuiti, Raurinm, Waiouru and Feilding, and covering the trip between Wellington and Auckland in 15 hours 50 minutes and from Auckland to Wellington in 16J hours.

A train will leave Wellington at 8 p.m., and is due to arrive at Auckland at 11.50 on Sunday morning. This will occupy 15 hours and 50 minutes on the journey. The train will stop at Palmerston North, Marton, Taihape. Ohakuno, Taumarunui and Frankton stations only. Half an hour is being allowed at Frankton, namely, from 8.50 to 9.20 to enable the passengers to obtain breakfast.

On Sunday afternoon an express train will leave Auckland for Wellington at 2.15, and is due to arrive at Wellington at G. 45 a.m. on Monday. This train will atop only at Frankton, Taumarunui, OhakUne, Taihape, and Palmerston, thirty minutes to 5.20) being allowed at Frankton to enable the passengers to obtain tea.

Passengers who intend to travel by the train will be able to reserve their seats or berths on application at the railway station in the usual way, and in order to suit the convenience of* passengers booking the Auckland office will be open for fehie purpose until 5 p.m. on Saturday and again from 12 noon to 1.15 on Sunday.

The train leaving Auckland will occupy lt>i hours on the journey, as against the present run of 18 hours. On the prewar time-table the train left Auckland at 12.40 and arrived at Wellington at 6.2R, a run of 17 hours and 46 minutes, and obviously the present schedule is n big improvement on the old one in the matter of time occupied.

It is stated that these trains are being put on for the week-end in this instance, but further information is not available as to whether the alteration is to be continued regularly or otherwise.
