The annual smoke social of the Maritime League Football Club on Friday night In the Hibernian Hall, Wellington StTeet, was a conspicuous success; Mr. Charles Weaver takiivg the chtiir vice Mr. Llversidge, who was indisposed. A banner, beautifully worked, bearing the emblems .and colours of the club and supported upon two staffs, was presented to the club by Mr. G. White, who is an enthusiastic supporter, and another of tlie brightest events o£ the evening was the presentation of ten medals that have been ottered by various enthusiasts to two players of each ! team. Tie senior and junior medals ffre ,of gold; and those for the fourth, fifth and isixth grade are of-silver. . In each grade one Is presented to the best back and the other to the best forward. In the seniors 'H. Avery was selected as the forward and G. Davidson the <back. The Junior forward who gained the honour was B. iShera, and the back C. Wilkle. In the other grades :the awards were:—Fourth, forward S. •Cllflfe, back J. Baker: fifth, forward F. IMoran. back W. Whittington: siith, forward A. Baier. back W. Carey. The musical programme was delightful,' the speeches all short and , to the point, and generally the evening was a bright and merry one. •HAWKETS BAY TRI-P. Circumstances compelled the club to postpone Its projected trip to Napier, but on Saturday next a Maritime team will leave for the sunny province away down In the south-east.
