THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
LABOUR CANDIDATE OPENS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. J. Reid, Labour candidate for Wellington North, opened the campaign tonight. He said that the Tory-Liberal combination had extended their terra of office unconstitutionally, passed laws for which they had no mandate from the people, and allowed profiteering on an unprecedented scale without hindrance. He said the Government inflicted conscription on the people without considering their wishes. The Labour party stood uncompromisingly against conscription in any form. The Tories proposed that Xew Zealand should have only two representatives in the Imperial Parliament, but that that Parliament should have power to engage in war and determine the Empire's policies in regard to citizenship and nationalisation.
