THE COAL SHORTAGE.
THE KIRIPAKA MINE. Colonel Holgate, managing director of the Northern Coal Co., was asked this morning how long it was proposed to keep the Kiripaka mine idle. He replied: "'lt is quite impossible to say at present, but the directors have decided not to reopen the mine again until the whole labour trouble is settled. Meanwhile we are endeavouring to obtain freights for our boats to prevent them lying idle. Including miners, staff, and officers and crew of the boats, about 100 men arc affected by ceaeing operations at this mine."
