DELAYED TELEGRAPHS.
MISCHIEF OF THE EARTH CURRENTS. The Pacific Cable Board has notified the Auckland Telegraph Department ot further delays in the cable service in consequence of all telegraph lines on the mainland of America being affected by an exceptionally intense aurora. At the present time New Zealand is cut off from Montreal, and it is impossible to saywhen conditions will be normal.
The first indications of electrical disturbance were received yesterday, when the Telegraph Department notified that •owing to the unusually active earth currents the traffic within the Dominion was being delayed. In order to cope with the work a metallic current wafi used for the greater part of the day. Communication was improved early in the evening. The cable service was also interfered with to a considerable extent, and reports were received from America and Australia that the electrical disturbance was affecting the operation of the wires there.
No further effect was felt in the Dominion to-day, and this afternoon the Telegraph Department intimated that normal conditions were prevailing in tho service.
