OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN VAN BREDA. A gentleman well known in commercial circles in this city, Mr. John Van Breda, died yesterday, at Epsom, aged S7 years. He was born in Holland, and came lo Auckland over 40 years ago. Ho carried on a shirt factory for some time in Shortland Street, and then removed to Newton Road, where Van Breda's factory was operating for a number of years. About sixteen years ago Mr. Van Breda went to Sydney, where he started in business with a partner, but lost what he had made in Auckland. Returning to Auckland, Mr. Van Breda was for some time bookkeeper for Messrs. Champtaloup and Cooper, Queen Street. Advancing years necessitated his living in retirement for some time prior to his death. Mr. Van Breda was a well-read man. and before leaving for Sydney possessed a very fine library. He was a methodical man. and six years ago made all arrangements for his funeral, which takes place to-morrow, the interment being at Otahuhu Cemetery.
