"ITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
A FINANCIAL PROBLEM. The City Schools Committee met last evening, the chairman, Mr. U. Pardington presiding. Appreciation was expressed at the assistance lent by various firms in assisting the committee scheme to provide pupils with a free cup of cocoa at lnnch. time. The secretary reported that he had solicited the assistance of various firms, and had met with a fruitful response. The quarterly financial report showed that the funds available for the next quarter were about i i-'-Q less than, the estimated expenditure, and it was agreed that the grants from the Education Board were altogether inadequate, especially in the winter when there ia edditional expenditure to 'be faced. It was suggested that householders should be called together and the position placed before them. The chairman stated that the position had been, similar on many previous occasions in this and other committees, .fend there -was no occasion for alarm. TTltimately the secretary and chairman -were authorised to meet the most tirgent accounts. , r A sub-committee of five, with power *o add not more than three school ■teachers was appointed to deal with the refreshment scheme. The resignation of Mr. B. Martin from the committee -was accepted with regret, and Mrs. F. Dawson was appointed to fill "tie vacancy. Exception was taken to ihe fact that the City Schools Committee was not to be represented at the conference of educational authorities •■with, the ministers of the province. It was considered that the City Schools Corrrmittee should have a representative in the interest of the primary schools, fft was decided that the secretary should attend with this end in view.
