FIRE IN A MINE.
KAITAXGATA COLLIERY CLOSED. I DCNKDIX, Monday. A serious mishap occurred in tbc Kai- , tangata No. £ coalmine on Saturday, ' which will result in the mine being closed for conic time. l It ap|)ears that a rake of boxes loaded with coal fouled tbe rings supporting the steel plates and sand at the scat of a long-established lire which had teen I stopped. As it was pay Saturday, the liiine i was practically idle, hut one honse and a rake of trucks were burned. Some i winches wore pot out of the mine to-day, but it is believed that the dip will have to be stopped at the main drive to get j the lire under control.
