FROM GOLD TO GRASS.
WAIHI PLAINS DEVELOPMENT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Addresses were delivered on Saturday evening- by Messrs. Harkness and Valentine, cheese and butter experts, to members of the Waihi Settlers' Association, in connection with the local dairying outlook, and the proposal to erect a batter factory. The visitors, wlio had inspected a portion of the Waihi plains during the week-end, were much impressed with 'the possibilities of the plains from a dairying standpoint, and were surprised at the comparative cheapness of the land, but wisely suggested that some little, time should elapse before embarking on the establishment of a factory. They pointed out that sufficient area had not vet been -brought into permanent pasture to justify ench enterprise at the present time, birt that the settlers would bo justified in conßiderin.s; the proposition twelve months hence.
