Dr. D. Muir, of Wellington, has gone to Matamata to practice. Mr. G. T. Xiceol left for Xew Plymouth by the Raraiva yesterday. Mr. B. Martin's resignation was accepted with regret by the City Schools Committee last evening , . Mr. P. J. Vugler, assistant clerk of the court, GUborne, was presented by the staff of the court and the police with a suit case upon his retirement to go farming at Waihi. Dr. T. A. Persistent rumours are current that Mr. Wilkinson, member for Egmont, will not be a candidate at the general elections. On being approached he was. reticent, tout it is generally understood that he will shortly convene a meeting of his supporters and announce his intention of retiring from politics. A private message has been received stating that Captain A. J. Coutte, son of Captain A. Coutts, of Shelly Beach Road, Ponsonby, who left with the Main Body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as an N.C.O. in the F.eld Art.llery, i≤ returning to New Zealand next month in the troopship Horarata. Captain Coutta served right through the Gailipoli campaign, and after the evacuation proceeded to France with the artillery, anil has had continuous service ever einee, having been mentioned in dispatches for distinguished service. He has risen to his present rank through promotions on the field.
