ALLEGED HASTY MARRIAGE.

[ THE BRIDEGROOM'S AGE. Thomas Donnelly, a youthful looking ! returned soldier, stood in the Police Court this morning, charged with having on April 215. WIS, made a wilfully false declaration for the purpose of procuring a marriage license and certificate. ___-Inspector Wohlmann conducted the prosecution, and Mr. McLiver appeared for the defence. Thomas Culpan, registrar at Auckland, gave evidence that the defendant applied for a marriage license on the date in question, declaring himself to be 24 years and the bride to he 22 years of age. the license being made out for solemnisation by the Rev. Mr. Walker. Tn answer to counsel. Mr. Culpan stated that, had defendant given his age as 21 instead of 24 he would have (been entitled to a marriage license. Evidence was also given by the Rev. R. L. Walker, who stated that the marriage ceremony was performed by him on April 24, 191 S. Witness saw that the age given by defendant on the license was 24. He also thought the bridegroom looked rather voting, and asked him if he were over 21 years, j Donnlly replied that he was. Some time j later, as a result of a communication I from defendant's father, he asked him I again about his age. and defendant j maintained that he was over 21.
