TE AROHA NEWS.
The Mayor (Mr H. Jackson) presided at n public meeting convened to consider the proposal to erect a war memorial. A circular letter from the Auckland City Council was read relative to a proposed war museum to cost £80.000. After discussion It was decided to defer consideration of the Auckland proposal. A large committee wag elected, and It was decided that it should determine what form a memorial to be erected in Te Arohn should take. On their decision being made, it was resolved that a reply should be sent to the Auckland City Council to the effect that, while sympathising with Its proposal, the Te Aroha district proposes to erect a local memorial, and will therefore, for the time being, confine Its energies locally.
Mr J. A. Clothier occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Hungabunga Drainage Board. The State Advances Office advised that £1000 of the South Walhekau special rating area land drainage works loan of £5000 had been remitted: to the Bank of New Zealand. The tender of Banda Singh for improving the Matamata town outlet at 1/3 per yard ttue accepted. In the matter of Mr. "Weston Hughes' claim of £35 for alleged damage to his property by the Board's drainage operations. It was decided to disclaim any liability for loss of land the chairman and Mr. Orr to confer with' the claimant on the matter of damage to crass and fencing.
