A PARTIAL AGREEMENT.
CITIES WITHOUT BREAD. (Received 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, August 7. A conference between the master bakers and the operatives failed to settle the dispute over nightwork, but the co-operative bakeries agreed to concede the demand that all baking be done in daylight. The live thousand men employed by these societies were then ordered to" resume. There is scarcely a loaf of bread in the Liverpool shops. The Lord Mayor convened an urgent meeting of trade unionists, to arrange for a supply in cooperation with the food officials. Thousands are without bread in Ilford. Supplies at AVrexlinm were pooled and distributed at the Guildhall. Bread at Chester was conveyed to the Market Hall and sold to waiting women and children. Srowds at Blackpool fought for bread.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
