INTENSIVE CULTIVATION.
. COMPETITIONS SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. To increase the productivity of the country, Mr. W. Stewart Wilson, in an article on '"Uesults Achieved 'by the Otago Expansion League, , ' urges that the Government should provide funds for agricultural competitions on similar lines to encourage the children of the country to take an interest in intensive cultivation, and train them in proper methods. He quotes the example of a boy who raised three tons of potatoes on one-eighth of an acre, as against the average yield for the Dominion of less than five tons per acre, and also similar competitions in America, where they have developed into a great national movement.
