FRIDAY MARKETS.

FRTJXT VALUES UNCHANGED. VEGETABLES AT FANCY PRICES. The price of fruit on the local wholesale market remains much about the same as last week. Cooking apples are a little firmer in price, while dessert are a little eaßier. Lemons have made a big drop through heavy supplies coming forward and the fact that supplies of Californian lemons are due in Wellington next week. Buyers are consequently holding off. Hot-house grapes are realising 3/6 per lb, and passion fruit 20/ for 181b cases, which is easily a record for local sales. The high price is accounted for by the absence of supplies from Sydney. Island oranges continue to bring from 25/ to 30/ per case. The first shipment is due here next week from the Cook Islands, by the Flora. Prices are sure to recede considerably. A shipment of bananas is due here on Thursday by the Talune from Fiji.

A shipment of Valencia oranges and lemons are also due from California by the Moana, and should be in Auckland by the end of next week. Hot-house to* matoes are realising from 3/3 to 1/4 per lb, -and Poorman oranges from 10/ to 14/ per bushel. There -are ample supplies of apples in cool storage to keep the market going Until the end of September and probably well into October, with such lines as Stunner and Dougherty. Shipments of island tomatoes and cocoa-nuts are expected by the Elora.

The prices for vegetables nave been phenomenal, celery bringing from 3/8 to 3/11 per bundle 3n wholesale lots. Hothouse _ cucumbers are fetching from. 7d to lOd, cauliflowers, large, from 12/ to 14/ per dozen, smaller in proportion. Lineß such as lettuce, cabbages, etc., are bringing more than usual jprices for this time of "the year. Present supplies of potatoes are Bbort owing to the small amount of shipping coming Up the const, but it is anticipated that relief will cornshortly and that there will be- a fall in the present high prices. 3_Umaras are nearly off the market, 'their selling price being from 2_d to Sd per 3b. -
