The C. and D. liner put up a very creditable performance on ncr maiden voyage from New York, and arrived at this "port yesterday three days ahead of her time. She left Panama on July 9, her actual failing lime being 20 days IS hours, averaging 13.1 knots. The Northumberland recently accomplished the same passage in 10 days 11 hours. THE PALOONA. The Union Company's steamer Paloona. which, was recently on the San FranciscoWellington run. sailed from the latter port yesterday for Lautoka. via Suva. She is Jo load a cargo of sugar for the ■Colonial •Suzar Company, and should reach this port about August 10.

TALUNE SAILS SATURDAY. The Union Company have received advice that the Island steamer Talune is to leave Suva on Saturday next. ■ She is brinjting passengers and fruit cargo, and should reach port on Wednesday. August 6. Her ceparture has been fixed for August 11. MAMARI LEAVES COLON. Advice received by the local agents for the Shaw, saviil and Albion line, rtates that the Mamari. en. route from London, with troops, cleared Colon on .Inly 28. She is coming to Auckland, and loaded a full cargo of coal en route, being due here on Aujnist 10. RIRA REPORTED. The ketch Rir3. under charter to F. Utting was reported outside the reef this morning, aud arrived in the stream this afternoon. She left Nine Island with a carzo of copra about 17 days aso. and called at Russell for shelter, leaving the Northern port on Monday last. THE WAIRCNA. The Union Company advises that the new steamer Wairuna arri-red at San FranCisco on -Inly 15. The Arahara. is due from Glsborne to-morrow night. The Tarawera is still endeavouring to work East Coast ports. The Richardson steamer Kahu got away for East Coast bays this morning. The Moana is to sail from Wellington for 'Frisco on August S, this day week. The rateena left -Wellington at 0.5 a.m. to-day, and is due at Onehunga to-morrow at 11 a.m., sailing again at - p.m. Advice from Westport announces that the Katoa will get away with her cargo of coal to-night. Sbe should arrive here on Monday. Tbe Mokola is to take on coal at Glsborne. and continue her voyage to Auckland fr.om Dunedln this evening. BELLFOBT FROM NEW YORK. Another of the Luckcnbach line of steamers i s to visit New Zealand, advice to that effect having been received by Messrs. Russell and Somers. the local agents, to-day. The steamer Is the Bellfort, and she Is to sail about the middle of I August from New York with general cargo for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. She should reach this port about September 20. MAHIA'S SECOND VOYAGE. ' The Mahla. which is a comparatively jnew vessel, having been built in 1017, • berthed on her second visit to New Zealand waters yesterday. She came out from Loudon as a trooper, leaving Devonport on June 5 with 132G Australians. Fine weather was experienced throughout the voyage. Capetown being reached on Juno 24. After coaling the Mania sailed four days later, and reached Melbourne on July 1 17. She disembarked her troops, hero and at Sydney, and then went to Newcastle. [which was left last Friday. On the voyage across the Tasman heavy westerlies were encountered, but although the ship was In ballast, she behaved well. The Mania has no cargo, and Is to load 00,000 carcases of mutton here, and goes to Whangarei on Thursday nest to lift another 2070001 She then goes to Australia and loads general cargo for Port Said.
