There was a short sitting of the Police Court to-day before Mr J. E. Wilson, SJM. A first offender for drunkenness, who had attracted attention to his lapse by falling off the Nelson Street wharf into the water yesterday, afternoon, was convicted and discharged. Thomas Donovan (43) and Alfred J. Pennalligen (32), both second offenders for drunkenness, were fined 10/ apiece, in default 48 noars' imprisonment. Harry Walker (56), charged with the theft of a raincoat, was remanded till Friday; and Wm.- A. Ellis (23) and Harold E. Bailey (24), chargedwitb. assault and robbery, were remanded pn bail till Monday. A proposal to make application to Mr. Andrew Carnegie for a grant of HfiOO for erection of a public library jas discussed at a meeting, of the Chamber of. Commerce. The r suggested, that the clerk strtcted to apply for a larly inquiring- whether, snbjecbjo ite approval of plane, the W^f 1 * merged into k town hall building, t*. Clark supported, the movement.
