STARVING STOCK.
CATTX.E MERE SKELETONS. OYTXER HEAVILY FIXED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIX, this day. In the Police Court to-day. James Chapman, a farmer of Palnicrston disitrict. was charged with having failed to [supply stock with sufficient food. All in-'spec-tor. on visitin.2 the. property, found hundreds of sheep and some young stock jin a paddock that was absolutely bare of vegetation. The sheep and cattle had become mere skeletons, and 27 young stock had died. He stated that defendant was a man of high character, but was in delicate health. Mr Bartholomew. S.M.. said it was difficult to account for defendant's action, as it meant a severe loss to himself. Defendant was fined £20 and costs.
