LINER AND ICEBERG

MEET IN COLLISION. _ « TITANIC DISASTER AVERTED. A BOW-ON IMPACT. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 10.55 a.m.) HALIFAX, July 10. The steamer Grampian struck an iceberg oft' Newfoundland. Her bow was damaged and several of her crew killed. There was no panic, and the captain prevented a Titanic disaster by turning the ship bow on to avoid a blancing blow, which might have torn her bottom out as in the case of the White Star liner. The Oratnpian was able to proceed on her voyage.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.) The Grampian is a steel twin screw steamer of 10,074 tons gross, built in 1907 for the Allan S.S. Co., for trade between Canada and Britain, by A. Stephen and Sons, Ltd., of Glasgow.
