BILLIARDS.
Both caracs in the professional billiard tournament at the Sports Club ended in. close finishes. In the afternoon Thompson, the junior of the tournament, met Jackson, the well-known professional. Jackson was evidently short of practice, but be played some very finished billiards, the game being in doubt until the finish, when Thompson, who shows jrreat promise, won by 31. Jackson's hest breaks were 30. 22, 34. 25, 'SI and 20. against Thompson's 20. 20, 21 and 28. In the evenins Leherty. the finished left-hander, onposed Smith, a steady player, who made few mistakes. Leherty had a bad run In the early stages, the hulls breaking Imdly. while Smith played safety with excellent judgment. By good billiards Leherty gradually wore down his opponent, whom he passed at the «OO mark, wlnninir eventually* Tiy 81. ITis best efforts were 23. 2_\ fin. Sr> and 32, while Smith made 2T, 20 nnd 21. To-nicht Stpphpnson. the N'pw Zealand and a jrood frame is expected.
