KAURI TIMBER COMPANY.
HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of the Kauri Timber Co. was Held in" Melbourne last 1 month. Mr. F. H. Wilson (chairman of directors),-in'his speech-,-saidc"Although seven months had passed since "the suspension of hostilities there was no substantial increase in shipping facilities so far as concerned getting timber to oversea markets, but some small improvement had been experienced, and he trusted that as time went on they would gradually get back to normal trading conditions, not merely as regarded shipping, but the skilled men needful in bush and milling operations. The sales up to date encouraged the hope of a reasonably prosperous year, but the present conditions of industrial strife in Australia were prohibitive to the prosecution of any industry, and it was to be hoped that wiser counsels would prevail before much further additions were made to the large amount of loss already entailed upon all sections of the community." The chairman announced that the dividend of 8 per cent would be payable forthwith. • The chairman moved that the number of directors be reduced from six to five. This was seconded by Mr. G. A. H. Mills, and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chairman, directors and staff was proposed and carried.
