THE HOUSING PROBLEM.
A HARROWING STORY. SHIFTING RESPONSIBILITY. (Bt Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. At a Labour deputation to Ministers to-day, Mrs. Beck, a member of the Charitable Aid Board, gave a harrowing account of the conditions under which some good but poor people live m Wellinffton. She urged the need of Government action to provide homes for people. Sir .lam<-5 Allen said he did not think it right to look to the Government for everything. To his mind, it was purely the duty of the municipal authorities to find money for the housing of their own people. Mr. Frazer, M.P.. interjected: "The Government will have to provide money."' Sir Jas. Allen: How do we provide the money? By taxing the people. Municipalities should provide the money in the same -n-ay. He agreed it was proper that people should have decent housing.
