NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A speci.il meeting of the Northeote Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Greenslade) o presided and Councillors J. T. AspUen. Italph Rireh. W. 1". Koberts, Wm. Kinley. Win. Spenee. W. K. Richardson, \V. 1C A. Stewart, and Geo. H. Lyon were also present. Itetaining Walls.—The Mayor and Councillors Aspden and Richardson were appointed a committee to report in connection with necessary work at the wharf approach wall and the western end of King Street. Infant School Corner.—A letter was read from the Northeote School Committee that the matter of the removal of the tree at the Northeote infant school, having been carefully considered on more than one occasion, and the committee having found no cause to depart from its previous decision to retain the tree, regrets it is nual>le to accede to the Tequest of the bsrough council for the use of forty feet lof laud for widening the road, and would suggest that, the kerb having already been laid, the matter might now be allowed to rest. The Mayor said the footpath had not been completed, but necessary work to allow of the children a measure of comfort during the winter had been accomplished. On the motion of Councillor Speuce, seconded by Councillor Richardson it was unanimously resolved to forward copies ot the correspondence to the Auckland Education Board, renewing the request to that body, and pointing out that the appearance of the school grounds would lie improved, while danger to vehicular traffic, especially motor cars, would lie minimised by the rounding off of this corner, past -.vhich tin; bulk of the traffic from Birkenliead and Northeote to Takapuna was essential.
