POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M.) A RIPPING TIME. Patrick Kiely (41} admitted that ht, was drunk in Queeu Street yesterday, and that he damaged two mackintosh coats belonging to the Police Department. About a quarter to five yesterday afternoon he had gone along to tha corner of Queen and Wellesley Streets when he was drunk. At that point a policeman on point duty and tne con-
stable on the beat had hung up their raincoats on a hook on the centre trampole at the street corner. These caught the eye of Kiely, who went to the tram pole, looked at the constable on point duty, and then, remarking, "I don't give a — '■ — for any of you," he slashed the two raincoats several • times with a pocket-knife. The coats were ripped down in half a dozen places. Kiely, who said he didn't remember, was fined 20/ and ordered to pay £ _ 4/ damages. He wanted to know if he could not take it out in gaol. His Worship: No. You had over £_ on you, nearly enough to pay for tha damage. Kiely: But I got my teeth smashed yesterday and put my portmanteau in pawn. When I get the teeth mended, and the portmanteau out, I won't hava anything left. His Worship: You liave the money: now, and should have thought about tha other matter first. MISCELLANEOUS. Wm. Anderson (53)-, for committing a nuisance in the street, was. sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. A first ai* fender for drunkenness forfeited bail.
