The death is announced of Sir John -IcCall, Agent-General for Tasmania. Lieutenant S. Simpson, of Christchurch, is staying at the Central HoteL Major W. H. Pettit, N.Z.'M-C., left by the express last evening for Nelson. Mr. VV. H. George, Commissioner in London for the V.M.C.A., was a passenger to Wellington by the Paloona. The Hon. E. W. Alison and Mrs. Alison were passengers for Wellington by the express last night. Mr. J. H. Gunson and Mrs. Gunson left by the express last evening to join the Tofua at Wellington for San Francisco. Mr. John Thomas Oliver, inspector and engineer, of the Department of Public Health, Victoria, w_ose death occurred at Melbourne, was a Dunedin ' boy, being born in that city in IS6I. Dr. R.°H. Makgill, District Health ! Officer, has been appointed hon. sanitary . specialist officer for the Auckland Mili- '< i tary District. Dr. Makgill was a pasi senger for Wellington by the express . ; last night. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tame, of Devon- ' j port, were passengers by the Manuka . for Sydney, where they are to meet s their daughter, Mrs. C. Pemberton- -'; Pigott, who is coming on a visit from - ! Assam, India.
